GeoVISTA at IEEE VisWeek 2012

GeoVISTA members and alums will play several key roles at IEEE VisWeek in Seattle, Washington next week. VisWeek consists of three individual conferences: IEEE Scientific Visualization (SciVis), IEEE Information Visualization (InfoVis), and IEEE Visual Analytics Science and Technology (VAST).

Alumnus William Pike, who now works at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, is serving as a VisWeek general chair.

Alumnus Chris Weaver, now of the University of Oklahoma, will act as a Paper Chair. He is also a co-author on two VAST papers: "An Adaptive Parameter Space-Filling Algorithm for Highly Interactive Cluster Exploration" and "Watch This: A Taxonomy for Dynamic Data Visualization."

Alumnus Diansheng Guo, now of the University of South Carolina, and GeoVISTA Assistant Director Anthony Robinson are both serving on the InfoVis program committee.

Lastly, a paper written by a team of current and former GeoVISTA researchers won an honorable mention in the InfoVis paper session on Representation and Perception: "Visual Semiotics & Uncertainty Visualization: An Empirical Study" by Alan M. MacEachren, Robert E. Roth, James O’Brien, Bonan Li, Derek Swingley, Mark Gahegan
