Commentary

The issue concludes with a commentary by Rhyne in which she offers an important perspective on the potential benefits of GeoVRML, a georeferenced extension to the VRML97 standard, which is currently under discussion. GeoVRML will (potentially) lead to the combination of 3d interactivity on the WWW with models that represent three-dimensional geographic environments and that allow for the incorporation of basic GIS functionality.
