Koua, MacEachren published in IJGIS

Drs. Etien L. Koua and Alan MacEachren have had their paper "Evaluating
the usability of visualization methods in an exploratory geovisualization
environment," published in the April issue of International
Journal of Geographical Information Science. Dr. Menno Jan Kraak
from ITC in the Netherlands co-authored.
Etien Koua joins GeoVISTA Center

Dr. Etien L. Koua has joined the GeoVISTA Center as a Post Doctoral
Scholar. For the last 2 years Dr. Koua was a Senior Technical Advisor
for Tulane University Payson Center for International Development
and Technology Transfer under a Tulane/CDC project in Rwanda, and
Acting Chief of the Information Technology and Applied Statistics
Unit at the Treatment and Research AIDS center (TRAC) in Kigali,
Rwanda. Dr. Koua's interests include information visualization and
geovisualization, data mining, knowledge discovery in databases,
computational methods for the exploration of large geospatial datasets,
and usability and human-computer interaction. Dr. Etien L. Koua
will focus on GeoVISTA's GCCM and NCI projects, contributing to
the development of geospatial applications for use in public health,
crisis management, and other domains.
Dr. Koua holds a PhD in Geoinformatics from the University of Utrecht
and ITC in The Netherlands, and a Master of Science degree in instructional
systems and technology from Twente University in the Netherlands.
Luc Anselin published in Geographical Analysis

Dr. Luc Anselin, along with Ibnu Syabri and Youngihn Kho, has had
a paper, entitled GeoDa: An Introduction to Spatial Data Analysis,
published int he January issue of Geographical Analysis. Anselin
works for the Spatial Analysis Laboratory, University of Illinois
at Urbana.
Anthony Robinson published in C&GIS

GeoVISTA's Anthony Robinson, along with Jin Chen and Alan MacEachren,
has had a paper published in the journal Cartography and Geographic
Information Science. The paper, entitled Combining Usability
Techniques to Design Geovisualization Tools for Epidemiology,
is the product of collaboration with Hershey Medical Center. The
collaborative project, Geovisualization and Spatial Analysis of
Cancer Data, is funded through the National Institutes of Health
National Cancer Institute.
Anthony Robinson receives United States Geospatial Intelligence
Foundation scholarship

Anthony Robinson, GeoVISTA graduate affilliate and PhD candidate,
received one of nine scholarships awarded by the United States Geospatial
Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) this year. Anthony and the other
eight USGIF University Scholoarship recipients, which include three
PhD candidates, two Masters-level students, and three undergraduates,
were formally recognized at a dinner in San Antonio, Texas last
week. All of the recipients demonstrated academic and professional
excellence in a field related to the geospatial intelligence tradecraft.
